Meetings between these two sides this season have have been a bit of mixed bag, with Morley Road taking the league fixture at Binsted 5-2, whilst Athletic hit back just two weeks later to claim a place in the semi final of the cup with a hard fought, 10 man, 1-0 victory at Farnham College. So the possibility of a tight contest was on many cards before kick off.
The Farnham College pitch was a little cut up from previous weeks, but perfectly playable and so the 14 men of Chawton Athletic lined up with intense anticipation. The whistle went and Morley Road immediately got into their stride and Athletic were quick to enter into the festive spirit by gifting the home side the lead with barely a few minutes gone!
A quick one-two found the Morley left winger through and he finished with aplomb past a helpless Skilts. A hammer blow right at the start but, like many games, at least the goal came early there was plenty of time for Athletic to drag themselves back into the game.
Morley still looked dangerous, but Si, Scott and Marc were breaking the play up very effectively in the midfield and launching dangerous looking counter attacks that just lacked a touch of composure for the final ball.
The game was looking fairly even, both side probing in midfield despite the slightly sticky conditions, but it was Athletic who made the breakthrough as Sam's thunderous 25 yard strike whistled into the corner, 1-1 and deservedly so.
The game ebbed and flowed with both sides having glimpses of the opposition goal, Skilts doing brilliantly to turn over an excellent effort, but Si H going exceptionally close from 45 yards as the Morley Keeper's poor clearance feel to the Athletic Midfielder who struck the ball first time but the effort agonisingly cleared the crossbar.
It was Morley who re-took the lead as the Athletic scrambling defence came under pressure, and Marc's swivel to clear caught the Morley right winger, the collision was purely accidental, in fact it seems totally unlikely that the Athletic man was even aware of the attacked behind him. The referee had no real choice but to point to the spot and it was tucked away.
Athletic pushed on and Sam stung the hands of the Morley keeper with another excellent strike, but half time came with Morley edging it at 2-1.
Athletic were well and truly in the game, discussions about keeping shape and the back four sticking to the plan added steel to the second half fight as Athletic looked to get back on level terms, and the goal looked likely to come. Pat, having replaced the injured Dave at half time, and Si E, settling back into right back, were linking well up the right hand side and several dangerous looking positions were created.
But against the run of play Morley added perhaps an undeserved third as the through-ball slipped in the number 10, who looked beyond the last man, but who calmly squared for an easy tap in.
Tempers were flaring, the ground conditions and the importance of playing a direct rival seemed to be a monkey on the back of the 22 on the pitch and the referee did well to keep a lid on things.
Chawton struck back as yet another Morley Road foul gave Si H a 25 yard strike on goal. He expertly curled a pacy strike to the back post top corner, the Morley keeper shuffled across and looked favourite to snuff out any danger, but perhaps the setting sun or the presence of the on-rushing Athletic players caught his eye because he could only palm the ball up into the air. The Athletic players challenged with him, the ball bounced up again before being rammed into the roof of the net by Scott. 3-2 and it was game on!.
Marc made way for Carl as Chawton pressed on looking for the equaliser. Pat raided well down the right, skipping past challenges before driving for the byline. His cut back was spilled by the Morley keeper, who really wasn't having the best of days, and Kevin swiveled and smashed it home. 3-3 and Athletic really had their tails up now.
They surged into the Morley half, break after break; Scott and Si H simply irresistible in the middle of midfield. They were breaking up the play and launching wave after wave of counter attack, with the back four were sticking to the plan and there looked only one winner.
Morley Road re-grouped and with five minutes to go finally carved an opportunity of their own and slick interplay found the sub five yards from goal with Skilts to beat; it was easier to score than to have slotted wide. But wide it went...
The game was stretched and the pitch heavier than ever both Sam and Si H went down with cramp, Sam's as Athletic were countering once again.
The last chance of the game fell to Morley as a low swerving shot seemed to travel into slow motion destined for the corner, but a desperately scrambling Skilts somehow got a strong palm to turn round the post.
And so the final whistle, Morley Road 3 - Chawton Athletic 3. Athletic head into the mid-season break still in 7th, but now with 7 points; just 3 points behind Morley Road but having now played 10 games to the Farnham side's 8.
Special mentions for excellent performances go to:
Skilts, two brilliant saves that kept us in the game.
Paul I, who showed the pace and position that certainly I am used to and was lightning to snuff out any danger.
Si E, who's second half performance epitomized what Chawton Athletic is all about.
Pat, who's appearance at half time added a dribbling danger to the Athletic counter attacks.
But Blog Man of the Match goes to Scott, who must have intercepted twenty passes in the first half alone, was the back bone of the midfield (ably assisted by the as usual excellent Si H), and who deservedly scored.
The next game is due to be AFC Wanderers at home on the 3rd January. I will be in touch about trying to gather everyone together for pre-Christmas drinks.

Chawton Athletic 0 - Lindford 5
A lop-sided scoreline in a game that Chawton were always more that in with a shout of getting something from.
Despite the gulf between the club's current league positions this was a keenly and closely fought contest on a pitch that was playable but difficultly puddled in small areas.
Chawton, lining up for the first time in three weekends due to the weather, were quick into their stride with Si P and Si H immediately taking control of the middle of midfield.
Lindford looked nothing like the side that had beaten Athletic early in the season and who are currently residing top of the league as Chawton continually won the ball and forged toward their opponents' net, it was mostly one way traffic, but Lindford proved they had the teeth for the fight as Skilts was called upon to make a great double save.
The puddles were causing the Lindford centre backs problems and several half chances came athletic's way after Sam and Si H robbed the centre half but clear cut opportunities were at a premium for the Yellows. Sam did get a good cross in from the left, but Carl's near post shot was well blocked by the Lindford keeper and went out for a corner.
From one corner, a header narrowly went over, as another chance went begging for the home side.
Athletic looked relatively untroubled at the back and Athletic's high percentage of possession was such a positive sign that a goal for Athletic never felt far away.
Si H did brilliantly to dribble through and was unlucky as his last touch just allowed the ball away from him and the opportunity was smothered by the Lindford keeper.
Half time came, still at 0-0, as Athletic were looking to push home their advantage, but the break gave the team an excellent opportunity to set up for a second half into the strong Easterly wind that was blowing across the Binsted ground.
Confidence was high as Athletic looked to cause an upset but it was Lindford who had perhaps settled the better, setting up with their back four sitting deep, they drew the Yellows into their half and sprang on the counter attack. Two unfortunate bobbles meant the ball evaded the Chawton back line and the Lindford forward did well to lift the ball over Skilts for a undeserving lead.
Chawton still looked well in the game and could have drawn level as they pushed forward, but it was Lindford who added to their tally as a mishit cross found the corner of the Athletic net. Definitely undeserved.
Chawton could have clawed a goal back as Si P's fantastic dribbling run was halted by what looked to be a clear foul from behind, but the referee waved away Chawton's claims! Chawton, astonished, were caught on the break again and Lindford made it three.
Chawton stayed determined and always looked likely to work their way back into the game and nearly did so as another excellent through ball allowed Sam through one on one, but he was excellently denied by the Lindford keeper's outstretched leg.
Lindford added two more goals late on, on the break, Athletic really guilty of being beaten by their own game place of trying to draw their opponents toward the half way line.
Lindford certainly found their feet in the second half and were worthy winners, but 5-0 was very harsh on an ever improving Chawton team.
Next week brings another decent opportunity for Chawton as they travel to Farnham College to face Morley Road in the re-arranged game from a couple of games ago.
Blog man of the match today was Si P, who's energy levels, vision and all round play was clear for everyone to see and I thought he was the class act from both sides.

Chawton Athletic v Royal Exchange - MATCH ABANDONED
I don't think there were too many complaining when Referee, Clive Gatcum, ordered the players off the pitch at Binsted yesterday morning.
Just twenty or so minutes had elapsed in this League Cup tie, before conditions proved to be the ultimate winner and the match was abandoned.
Though exposed, Binsted's ground can hardly have seen weather like it before as the wind and rain pummelled the players remorselessly, making skillful play impossible.
Chawton had struck early in the piece too and had dominated up until the abandonment, an own goal resulting from a corner after the Exchange keeper's mis-control allowed the ball under his foot, a deserved lead for the Athletic who always looked likely to add to their tally after that great start.
Exchange briefly threatened with Skilts having to make the save of the Athletic season so far, tipping over a fierce drive that to all eyes seemed destined for the top corner, the resulting corner was dealt with and the ball cleared easily.
So the game is to be re-arranged, and thankfully Exchange were to be Athletic's next fixture on the 29th, so with the blessing from the league we have agreed to turn that league fixture into the cup game, Athletic happy to concede whatever advantage playing at home gave them in exchange for not having to put up the nets and corner flags.
STOP PRESS - The League inform me that both the Royal Exchange and Morley road are currently under suspension by the Hampshire and Surrey Fa's respectively, further details as to how this affects next Sunday's game will be available to me later in the week.

Chawton Remain 7th.
Chawton Athletic remain in 7th position in the Farnham and District Sunday Football League table, despite their weekend victory over high-flying Bluebell at Binsted.
The Yellows have now moved within three points of this weekend's opponents, Morley Road, so a victory at Farnham College will lift them to joint 6th place. With the away league match at still-pointless Royal Exchange to follow soon after (on the 29th), Athletic still have an excellent chance of finishing in a decent league position this season!

Chawton Athletic 4 - Blue Bell 3
Chawton Athletic returned a much drier, only slightly less windy but equally muddy Binsted pitch to meet Blue Bell for the first time this season.
Finally managing to name fourteen players, with the signings of Steve, Simon P and Keith, Chawton were keen to put last week's disappointment behind them.
Lining up in unusual fashion with two up front and a regular two lines of four, Matt returned in goal after an absence of four weeks missing through injury.
Chawton started the brighter with Marc, Simon P, Si H and Steve dominating the early exchanges with the ball on the floor and superb triangles working the Blue Bell midfield around.
The game ebbed and flowed but with Athletic definitely the first to get into their stride. They deservedly took the lead as a late arriving Martin connected sweetly with a Si H corner to power home. Chawton pressed home their advantage and had their more esteemed opponents well and truly rattled. The Athletic midfield four were totally in control and were outplaying the Blue Bell.
Blue Bell's first opportunity of the game saw a good left handed diving save from Matt and subsequent clearance, that much sought after first clean sheet still possibility for the Athletic keeper. Sadly that dream was shattered a few minutes later as a lofted long ball into the box saw a looping header just clear the desperate keeper.
Chawton were never likely to allow that set back to disrupt their flow and confidence and they immediately set back about the Blue Bell, eager to regain their advantage and they duly struck right back as Keith chased a great ball through, harassed the defender and keeper into an error and top scorer Sam tucked away the loose ball into an empty net.
The Yellows were not finished and a brilliantly measured long ball took out the whole of the Blue Bell defence, Keith's superbly timed run allowed him to race clear and finish with great aplomb indeed.
Athletic crafted several other half chances but finished the half with a very deserved 3-1 lead.
The second half saw the return of the strong wind across the Binsted pitch, but Athletic were immediately back in control. Simon P, Si H and Steve were passing the ball around beautifully leaving the Blue Bell powerless to regain a foothold back in the game.
Chawton should have pressed home their advantage but the Blue Bell keeper did well to keep an excellent crafted opportunity from Si H.
Blue Bell edged their way back into the game a touch, the wind adding to the difficulties for the Chawton keeper and back four, and Matt was called into action from a dangerous in-swinging corner. Blue Bell were handed an exceptionally fortuitous lifeline as the referee interpreted a ball smashed into Paul I's midriff from three yards as handball. The subsequent penalty was tucked past brother Matt to make it 3-2 to Athletic.
The pressure was on it's way, but when the Blue Bell did find a way through the Chawton midfield, the back five of Rich P, Martin S, Dave P, Paul I and keeper Matt mopped up any danger without much concern.
The chances were still falling Athletic's way, and the game should have been dead and buried long before Sam added Athletic's fourth with another brilliant finish, a smashed dipping drive which left the Blue Bell keeper with no chance.
Blue Bell made for a tense finish as a great pass found the marauding holding midfielder, who's excellent first touch allowed him to finish past Matt.
Chawton saw out the last ten minutes with no problems and could easily have added further goals as Pat replaced Keith, and immediately set about the right back and was unlucky not to have chipped the keeper.
Si E replaced Dave and settled well back into right back and George replaced Marc with a few minutes to go.
The referee played what felt like a lifetime of added time, a full EIGHT minutes, but Athletic deservedly held on to take the game 4-3.
Man of the Match was impossible to decide and would be unfair on the others as today's victory was a superb team effort, though special mention must surely go to the three debutantes, Simon P, Steve and Keith and also once again to the free-scoring Sam.
Roll on next week with another visit to Farnham College to play Morley Road. 09:15 sharp meet at Alton Station, Matt I will be in touch Tuesday.
Well done Athletic!!

Chawton Athletic 2 - Royal Oak 9
Chawton Athletic returned to a very wet Earth with a very large bump after last week's heroic ten man victory against Morley Road, when they welcomed Royal Oak to a very wet and windy Binsted!
A shortage of players once again hampered Athletic's chances as they turned out ten players against far better opposition.
Players weren't the only shortage, as a call from the league revealed our referee had moved across to a different fixture and that, despite the referees secretary's best efforts, we were without an official. Instead Matt I put that 17 year old class 3 refereeing qualification finally into practice!
The game kicked off in absolutely horrendous weather, heavy rain being driven horizontally across the ground. Athletic's ten men always looked likely to struggle against a well organized Oak side who seemed to have rectified the issues that surrounded their performance four weeks ago, when Athletic pushed them all the way.
Oak took the lead early on and soon doubled their lead, but Athletic fought back and deservedly scored through a superb long range rocket from Sam. His shot swerved in the wind, causing all kinds of problems for the Oak keeper.
A third was added controversially as the ball apparently entered the goal via the side netting, but unfortunately the ref was unable to see that.
Oak then scored directly from a free kick. Athletic shot straight back as Sam added a second from the penalty spot, as he was brought down from behind when powering into the box. Oak complained but the view Matt I had suggested it was a stone wall pen.
Half time came, the scores at 2-4, and some there was respite for some of us from the weather!
Unfortunately the wind played havoc with the Chawton defence in the second half, and Oak strolled casually away with the game scoring direct from three corners and two long shots, one of which was parried out by Lee to an Oak player likely to have been sitting in an offside position, but as it was not flagged Matt I had to give the goal.
Athletic looked dangerous on the break as always, and Si H could have scored Athletic's third after great work from Sam, with Si's diving header just squeezing past the post.
Athletic strove onwards and George, Bob, Marc and Si H were excellent in midfield and kept running and running.
The whistle went to signal the end of the game, a disappointing result for Athletic who perhaps did not deserve such a beating.
There is always hope for next week that we might have enough players, hopefully Si E, Pat and Scott, Ryan and Robbie may be available.
Blog Man of the Match was Si H, an excellent performance again, who's quality is clear to see and is proving a very valuable asset indeed, special mention to the long absent George, who had his best game in Chawton colours.
Chawton return the Street, Binsted next week as they entertain Bluebell. 9:45am sharp meet at the ground, though will be texting to ask for availabilities Tuesday evening.

Morley Road 0 - Chawton Athletic 1
Injuries and unavailabilities once again put Chawton Athletic on the back foot before this Farnham and District Sunday League Runwick Cup tie away to Morley Road even started; as they only managed to raise ten players for this distraction to their league campaign.
Lee returned in goal and Pat was back after missing a couple of weeks of through injury, but Bob's later withdrawal due to family illness looked to have scuppered Athletic's chances.
Athletic started on the back foot as Morley Road quickly found their stride but Athletic, perhaps buoyed by the reward of a semi-final place on offer, were more than equal to the task and restricted the home side to poorly executed long range efforts.
Skipper Rich P, marshalled his defensive line excellently and each member of the defensive four were going to have to have a flawless ninety minutes if Chawton were to avoid a hiding. Morley looked well organised, but having only recently played against today's opposition two week's ago, Athletic knew to keep their heads and concentration.
Half chances, at best, were coming Morley Road's way thick and fast but Lee in the Athletic goal was rarely concerned, with shots mostly being fired high and wide. When called upon, the Chawton keeper did well to palm clear on a couple of occasions and claimed a cross confidently.
Athletic were perhaps fortunate to survive a confident penalty appeal as Rich bought down the marauding Morley Road winger. The referee, who had a great game, was unable to clearly see the penalty box line and settled for a free kick just outside the box - possibly as punishment for not having a properly lined pitch!
Strangely, the best opportunity of the half fell Athletic's way as excellent build up play through the Yellow's midfield and then great hold up play by lone front man Sam, saw a measured lay off to Pat, who's sweetly struck side footed effort flashed millimetres over the bar.
Morley pushed again, but excellent defensive play all round from the Athletic back four saw them safely negotiate a tricky period before half time, the scores remaining goalless.
Chawton re-grouped at half time and knew that the real pressure to win was sat squarely on Morley Road's shoulders with their home and numerical advantages, but Athletic were determined not to capitulate.
Morley Road were still looking clever going forward but the game was slowly being stretched and the Athletic midfield quartet was starting to show their class. A insightful ball behind the last man saw Sam shoot over when well placed and Athletic's confidence was lifted. Another well orchestrated break saw Sam again volley over. Chawton Athletic were beginning to look like the side more likely to take the lead, as every counter attack looked promising, a low, left-footed cross from Carl was connected by Mark who laid it off for Sam to put narrowly wide.
With twenty minutes left, Chawton made the break through as, again, a great ball behind the static high sitting Morley defence saw Sam race through and slot past the Morley keeper. Perhaps generally against the run of possession, but difficult to say an undeserved lead for the Athletic.
Another good palmed save by Lee from a long range shot was the only real worry, as luck finally returned to a deserving Athletic defence. Fifty/fifty tackles on the edge of the box were consistently won by the a determined away side's defence.
Sam could have settled it late on as he raced through but a good save by the Morley keeper saw a corner as the result.
The last fifteen minutes seem to take at least double that, with the game resembling a kind of defence versus attack training game as the home side pushed for a late equaliser. Even their keeper joined the attack in the final five minutes. But finally the referee looked at his watch for the last time and blew his whistle on a famous Athletic victory.
Blog man of the match was Rich P, an inspired captain's performance by the big central defender, but special mention must go to Sam who again worked tirelessly up front alone and Carl who had his best game in the colours of Chawton. But ultimately every single player had to be at their best to forge this result; an excellent effort all round, well done and well deserved.
Athletic, with at least 14 players next week please boys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, entertain Royal Oak at their Binsted home ground.

AFC.Wanderers 6 - Chawton Athletic 3
Chawton's longest away trip of the season, over to Broadwater School in Farncombe, had been in the balance up until Friday afternoon as player numbers were staggeringly low due to injury and other commitments, but a late surge saw Athletic turn up at new boys to the league AFC Wanderers with 13 players.
Utility Player/Manager Matt is still sadly a frustrated spectator, as his knee injury will now require further treatment and many others have been injured for the last weeks, with the list growing with every game!
Athletic lined up in usual order, with Sam ploughing a lone furrow up front and Skilts sat in front of the back four for additional protection.
Athletic started the game the brighter; they were quickly into a passing game which perhaps had been missing earlier on in the season. They forced the home side into conceding a few corners, none of which would fall to the Chawton attackers in the box. But it was Wanderers who took an undeserved lead, as a long ball through was allowed to bounce by the hesitant Athletic defence and after several attempted clearances it fell to the edge of the box where it was looped over the keeper and into the back of the net.
Athletic refused to allow their heads to drop despite the very early set back, and were soon on level terms as great skill and a low shot inside the post gave the Wanderers keeper no chance.
The Yellows were revelling in their new found equality and pushed forward meaningfully, only to be caught again on the break. The Wanderers striker did well to clip over the advancing Athletic keeper.
It was another setback, but still Athletic knew they were playing well enough and were again level soon after. A marauding Skilts burst through the static Wanderers midfield and let fly on goal, seeing his slightly dragged shot finding Sam on the edge of the box who controlled excellently before slotting round a helpless keeper.
Athletic pressed forward seeking a third and forced several corners. They let fly a couple of times, the keeper doing very well to tip one shot onto the bar. Still Chawton were not having it all their own way as Wanderers were looking dangerous on the break and the Athletic keeper did well on several occasions to tip onto the post and collected through balls well. AFC came closest to adding to the score line when a shot again ricocheted off the post and across the line before being smothered by the thankful keeper.
2 - 2 at the break and Athletic knew the game was there for the taking, and started the second half looking the likely winners, Robbie was breaking play up in the middle of midfield and was revelling in the space afforded to him, several of his through balls were only just cut out by the last Wanderers defender, but the goal was coming and the next through ball was rammed home.
3-2 up and it was surely a matter of how many Athletic would score whilst ensuring they kept tight at the back? Sadly Chawton's frailties at the back returned and as the midfield pushed on to press home the advantage, Wanderers stole their way back into the game; good finishing again from Wanderers but disappointment from Athletic.
The game was well and truly stretched now and it had turned into both sides playing with three or four players caught up front in a strange kind of Attackers v Defenders training type session. It was Wanderers quality with the final ball that was telling as they added a fourth and then a fifth, Athletic's final ball fell away a little and only half chances fell their way.
Manager Matt made a couple changes to covered some injuries, with Bob replacing Paul I and a still-not-fully-fit Carl replacing Ryan in the closing stages.
A sixth was added before the end, as a free kick managed to elude everyone and nestled into the far corner. This completed a thoroughly undeserved 3 - 6 scoreline for Athletic, who will be hoping for a similar performance next week as they visit Morley Road next week in the Runwick Cup. Hopefully a fuller squad will be available to choose from.
Special mention for referee, Dave Osborn, who had an excellent game indeed, allowing the game to flow well. In fact he only had to give three or four free kicks during the whole of the game, a testament to the players for playing the game in a great spirit.
Blog Man of the Match was Robbie in the middle of the park who, despite playing on Saturday as well, worked tirelessly and controlled the midfield and made us look dangerous.

Chawton Athletic 2 - Morley Road 5 match report
Chawton Athletic headed into this near bottom of the table clash buoyed after their outstanding performance against the Royal Oak last week, but again late drop outs, no shows, work commitments and injuries scuppered their chances of taking a vital victory against Morley Road at Athletic's picturesque home ground at The Street, Binsted.
Chawton managed to scrape together 11 players, with Carl still nursing a damaged ankle and forced into the action due to the shortage of players.
Chawton were quick into their rhythm but it was Morley Road; and particularly the two visiting strikers that, found their passing game and were ultimately to make the difference.
Chawton fell behind early in the piece, as a quick interchange allowed the striker through on goal to slot past the helpless Martin S in goal. Chawton were harrying and closing down well, and were looking like a team likely to get something from the game.
A second and third were added by Morley Road, one a delightful strike from the edge of the box after a mad scramble, again leaving Martin a spectator.
Morley Road pressed and were unlucky when Martin S pulled off a magnificent save, tipping over a ferocious drive.
Half time came and Chawton collected themselves for a concerted push at the beginning of the second half, but again it was Morley who made the breakthrough. 4-0, but the Athletic heads were not down yet and they came storming back, a long ball was chased down by Sam, the Morley Road keeper's clearance struck Sam who rounded the keeper and slotted home.
Chawton had Morley road rattled and were suddenly winning the 50/50's that had gone against them, the ball was down on the ground mostly, and they looked dangerous. And it was Chawton who took advantage while their tails were up, a great longer ball over the full back set Craig free who calmly lobbed the advancing keeper; Chawton were well in the game at 2-4 down.
The chances kept coming at both ends, Craig could have squared to an unmarked Sam, but took the chance on himself and fired over. Chawton's long balls were troubling a very high sitting Morley Road defence, and Craig was unlucky when his header was pushed round for a corner, and also when he failed to collect when through on goal.
A late challenge halted a great break by Scott and prevented him bearing down one-on-one with the goalkeeper; the perhaps slightly over officious referee surprised everyone by only awarding a free kick, which, though well struck by Bob was saved well.
Morley Road finally hammered the nail in the coffin as a through ball found the striker free and he rounded Martin to score the 5th, leaving the final score 2-5.
Another excellent effort, but Chawton again were left ruing the fact that they were so short of players, some extra quality with the likes of Si H, Pat and Matt all out and some substitutes to be able to freshen it up.
Next week sees an unknown challenge as Athletic travel to A.F.C. Wanderers, a new team to the league this season.

Chawton League Update!
Chawton Athletic's start to the season has been varied. Some good performances have seen the team achieve much better results than last year.
The early season 2-1 victory at home to Royal Exchange has catapaulted Athletic to 6th in the table. Another victory at home to Morley Road this Sunday, the 11th, could see the Binstead Recreation Ground side open a six point gap to the bottom two and further their hopes of attaining a top five finish.
The opening five games, which have included going out of the Challenge Cup at the first hurdle, have seen Chawton remain unbeaten at their new home in Binstead. They are still yet to avoid defeat away from home, but two of the away defeats have been to the current top two (as yet undefeated) sides in the division!

Royal Oak 4 - Chawton Athletic 1
Chawton Athletic again faced another short away trip to Bordon for this "tough on paper" looking Farnham and District Sunday League fixture against the Royal Oak.
Injuries again having robbed Chawton of several members of the squad, it was still great to see Si E and Rich P cheering the boys on from the touchline. Athletic headed into the game with just 12, but with George already struggling for injury and substitute Carl not fit to start, having twisted an ankle the previous week.
Lee returned in goal and Bob and Pat returned in midfield and defence respectively, so Matt I took a lone role up front with Scott, Rob and Ryan added to the squad as emergency signings.
Athletic started the brighter and created the first clear cut opening of the game as a great lay off to Bob saw him float a special ball into the middle, picking Matt out who rose well between the Oak centre backs; but failed to keep his header down, a glorious opportunity gone begging early for Athletic.
Oak really had not started and were ineffectual against a well drilled Athletic midfield, marshaled well once again by Si H. Athletic were fortunate not to fall behind against the run of play, great defensive play and a super block from Lee, followed by a clearance off the line by Martin maintained the deadlock.
The next golden chance fell Matt's way again, as an excellent lobbed pass from Si H set him free on goal, defensive cover closed Matt down and his volleyed 15 yard effort left the keeper a spectator but narrowly cleared the bar.
George's troublesome thigh flared up and he was replaced by the already struggling Carl on the left hand side of midfield.
Oak were extremely fortunate to take the lead, as Bob's excellently timed tackle was harshly deemed to be a foul and the resulting whipped free kick saw the ball ricochet off of Martin past a helpless Lee.
Oak quickly added a second and third, but Athletic were more than a match during period of the first half and were unlucky to find themselves behind at all, let alone 3 down. Another excellent ball through saw Rob burst through on goal, he brilliantly rode a couple of challenges before slotting past the Oak keeper.
3-1 at half time and Athletic were right to be a) Disappointed to be behind and b) Spurred on by the first half performance which was one of the better ones I had seen the boys put in.
Athletic were quick on the attack at the start of the second half and definitely had the Oak back four rattled as Rob then Matt again went close, perhaps; though a little harshly as the keeper saved well both times; they both could have done a little better. A succession of very tight offsides thwarted Athletic as the Oak pushed up and left acres of space behind a slightly frail looking back four.
Chances were still coming the Oak way though a mixture of poor finishing, good cosing down and a great save by Lee, saw the score remain at 3-1.
Athletic were pushing the Oak all the way and were starting to get under the skin of the Oak, who gave needless free kicks away, one of which was a fairly poor shoulder charge against Scott when well placed, the subsequent free kick sadly coming to nothing. As Athletic started to look to get a grip on the game, Oak finally hammered the final nail on the coffin as a near post ball was converted past Lee.
Athletic kept pushing on, and forced several corners as the game counted down, in fact probably forced the lion's share of corners across the 90 minutes.
The referee finally blew the final whistle on an exhausted and slightly disappointed Athletic, difficult to say on balance that Athletic did not deserve to lose this tie, as Oak made many chances and ultimately took 4 of them, but the effort the boys showed and the clear cut opportunities they created, on a different day it could have been a more positive outcome.
Blog Man of the Match was Bob, who narrowly pipped the ever excellent Si "Spider Head" H, who was at the heart of the majority of Athletic's attacking play. Bob never gave up and never seemed to stop running, creating two great opportunities for himself, and was quick to get a foot in a break up the play.
Athletic finally return home next week after three away games as they play host to Morley Road next Sunday, hopefully Matt, George and Carl will recover sufficiently from this week's knocks to take an active part in proceedings and also hoping that Paul I, Rich T and perhaps Si E may return, though it may be that Rich P may still need to rest his pulled thigh muscle. Thanks Rich P for running the line.
Up the Athletic!! Another performance like today next week against Morley Road should see a very good opportunity to take another 3 points!

Royal Exchange 4 - Chawton Athletic 2
Chawton were left to rue their mis-fortune after this Farnham and District Sunday League Challenge Cup tie against The Royal Exchange.
Car trouble, injuries, illness and family robbed them of four vital players and prior to kick off, leaving Athletic woefully short of numbers with just the 11 players. A shame as all week it had appeared that they would have at least 15 available.
Athletic lined up in mostly normal fashion with Si E taking over the decision making reigns from Matt, the only change tactics wise from last week was Martin sitting in front of the back four with Sam up front on his own.
Athletic looked poor in the early stages and rightfully fell behind from a corner as Si H's miscued clearing header fell back into the middle of the box, a block by Rich P saw the ball ricochet back to the Exhange player who fired into the roof of the net.
Chawton were chasing the game from the off, and soon fell further behind when a hopeful long ball over the Athletic defence was collected and finished past a despairing Matt. A huge disappointment for Athletic who were just edging their way back into the game.
Chances were few and far between but Sam was unlucky on two separate occasions not to have opened Athletic's account, the keeper fortunately saving once and a shot striking Si H who had accidentally strayed into the firing line.
A late tackle on the marauding Paul I saw the left back, who was already struggling with a cold, fall very awkwardly on his elbow, and struggle with it for the rest of the game in obvious pain.
Athletic were starting to match Exchange a little more, but Exchange's better organization was starting to take it's toll on the tiring Athletic Midfield and another longer ball saw Exchange increase their lead further. Sam pulled a goal back before half time with an excellent mazy run through the Exchange back line before coolly slotting past the keeper.
Half time 3-1 down and Athletic had it all to do, and to be fair started the better. Exchange were still defending very high and only the linesman's flag curtailed several promising positions. Sam scored again after great work from John, easily rolling the ball past the stricken Exchange keeper.
Suddenly the momentum of the game had changed, and Athletic were in the ascendancy, it was surely a matter of time before they deservedly equalised.
Chances came and went including a great opportunity for the returning George, who screwed his first time shot wide of the upright.
Athletic were starting to badly miss the lack of fitness and substitutes to freshen things, and Exchange were easing their way back into the game.
Matt saved smartly at the feet of the forward but Athletic chances were getting fewer and it was as Athletic tried to force their hand to push for the equaliser that Exchange scored the decisive goal, Rich P struggling on with injury, was unfortunate to miss his kick and Matt was left in no mans land and lobbed.
Blog Man of the Match was Paul I, who plugged away all day despite injury, with a never-say-die attitude that is a credit and an inspiration to the rest of the squad.
Next week Athletic see action away from home against Royal Oak at Meadow School Field. 9:15am meet at Alton Station.

Chawton Athletic 2 - Royal Exchange 1
Chawton Athletic took all three points in the first game at their new home ground, Binstead Recreation Ground.
Here is Paul I's transcript of the game:
We played really well, we had a midfield that remained focused for the entire game and supported the attacks but didn't leave the defense wide open. We pushed forward from the beginning down both flanks, forced a corner which Bob took and Rich P headed in only for it to be disallowed due to the ball having gone out from the corner and then coming back in.
Not long after I cleared (passed deliberately) the ball to Rich Townsend playing left midfield he stepped in had a speculative shot which the keeper fumbled into the net.
About 10 mins later they scored to equalise, can't remember how off the top of my head but against the run of play as we were defending quite comfortably at that point. Bob had brought along a keeper Martin H, who was very very good. Came out quick and decisively, plucked the ball out of the air, good throwing set up several good attacks.
Another attack and the ball went up through Bob I think to Sam who turned and shot from the edge of the box for the ball to hit the left hand post bounce across the goal into the net. Midfield was comfortably snuffing out most of the breaks from the opposition, Si Horner played very well, Bob probably had his best game Ive seen him play.
Skilt's played defensive midfield until half time when he had to go to his daughters birthday party. Rich Townsend on the left gave me lot's of cover (thankfully). Rich T then got injured, Achilles, and went off to be replaced by Paul Whitcher. But, give him his due, I gave him a man to mark and he stayed with him and made it difficult all game.
Skilt's then went at half-time and was replaced by Carl who played a defensive midfield role and generally got in the way a bit of the attackers. We kept to mainly long range efforts which Martin H snuffed out easily. They had a few efforts but nothing really troubled the keeper except one were he'd had to come to the attacker who lobbed him, but luckily I had wandered back and chested it off for a corner which they wasted.
Then James did his achilles and was replaced by Si Edwards, who coped quite comfortably too. Basically, they had very little to trouble us with and if Sam had have been fully fit we would have easily scored 5 or 6 I reckon because we played so many good decisive passes between defenders for Sam to chase that he would had a field day.
Every single player made a valuable contribution, Dave Parkins and Rich P looked solid at centre back, both full backs coped pretty well with what came there way. Its a shame James is injured because he was looking a very good player. Midfield with whichever players were in it worked hard, closed down and pushed forward well. Sam was still a threat even carrying his injury.

Lindford 7 - Chawton Athletic 1
The short trip across to Broxhead Common found the Chawton Athletic players in confident mood after last week's morale boosting victory of Royal Exchange (match details for this game should be posted on this site once I have them), to take on Lindford.
The sun was shining and all was well with the world as Chawton kicked off against the side, whom last year under the guise of Wey Valley Sunday had seriously dented Athletic's confidence on three separate occasions.
This time it was Athletic who took the bull by the horns and as Lindford struggled to get there passing game going it was Athletic who should have taken the lead as a great ball across feel to Pat who forced the Lindford keeper into a smart save down to his right, and it would be the last time he came to Lindford's rescue.
Athletic; though perhaps riding their luck on occasion; were matching their better organised opponents and Si anchoring midfield looked likely to create Athletic another chance. Bob and new signing Toby up front led the line well, but the Lindford centre back dealt with most threats well, including winning virtually everything in the air.
Lindford took the lead with 25 minutes gone, as a slick one-two was tucked past the unlucky Martin in the Athletic goal. Despite the setback Athletic did not allow their heads to drop and worked hard to get back into the game. Sadly it was Lindford who were next to trouble the scorers as a near post corner was diverted into his own goal just ahead of the striker by Carl, very unfortunate for the industrious right midfielder.
Chawton soon had something to cheer about as they broke clear down their right and Carl's left-footed cross was swept home tidily by Toby, nothing less than Athletic deserved, not perhaps for technical ability but for grit and determination.
Lindford came back strongly and were slowly putting the squeeze onto Athletic and it was not long before another through ball saw a spinning Lindford forward cheekily back-heel the ball past the on-rushing Martin.
The heads were starting to drop a little now and Lindford stepped up their dominance of the midfield and added a fourth as a wildly dragged cross shot fell into the path of the forward who finished first time into the corner.
There was time for an excellent Si chipped and curled effort to be turned round the post by the Lindford keeper, it looked destined for the top corner and was a great save indeed.
Lindford added a 5th before half time with a long range effort.
Chawton despite the scoreline were upbeat at half time, knowing that they could create chances if they kept plugging away, but again it was Lindford that made the early break through, almost mirroring the finish of the 5th but this longer range effort was curled into the opposite corner.
Keeper Martin was replaced due to injury and Matt took his place making his debut for the season.
The game quietened down a bit and although Lindford always looked dangerous on the break, the game was won and this allowed Athletic back into the game. Several passages of play went the Chawton men's way and again the keeper did well to keep a Si header out. Athletic forced corners and created half chances but Lindford created chances of their own and Matt did well to turn a cross short round the post and to close down a one-on-one and save well.
Lindford finally added to their tally as a goal kick came straight back to the Lindford sub who fired past a slightly out of position Matt into his near post.
Blog man of the Match was Si in midfield, an excellent effort indeed, lots of energy and very unlucky not to have scored at least once.
Next week Chawton are away to Royal Exhange this time in the Cup.

Hartley Wintney 5 - Chawton Athletic 0
So a brand new Farnham and District Sunday league season kicked off yesterday, with Athletic facing a familiar foe in Hartley Wintney, the side they opened their inaugural season against last year.
Chawton, who's side boasted some new faces, started brightly and were working hard across the midfield and were restricting their opposition to more speculative long range efforts, most of which were off target but those on target were safely dealt with by new keeper Lee P.
Athletic, though on the back foot for lengthy periods, were able to make inroads into a Wintney side that were being caught going forwards and an early snap shot from Sam nearly lead to the deadlock being broken. Si E was particularly energetic as Athletic's forward efforts stemmed from the right hand side. But it was Wintney who finally took the lead cruelly just moments before half time as finally Athletic were opened up down the left hand side Paul I being left with two men to mark and despite Lee narrowing the angle the ball rifled it's way past him. Still 1-0 at half time was a superb effort and Athletic were well in the game still and had ambitions of snatching an equaliser as they kicked off for the second half.
Sadly the early season energy levels favoured Wintney who had managed a handful of pre-season friendlies to Athletic's none and they soon began to take control of the game. Athletic kept plugging away, Pat worked very hard throughout the whole game and was unlucky not to prevent a goal when he harried and chased back all the way to the edge of the box, but a little misfortune saw the ball ricochet to the feet of a Wintney striker who made no mistake.
Nothing really went Athletic's way, Paul I was caught late on the edge of the Athletic box as he intelligently turned his man, only for the referee to wave play on, collect the loose ball and finish well.
Lee had little really to do other than collect the odd cross, but did do well to close the angle and save well as the Wintney striker bore down on goal.
A quick throw on and great work from Pat saw the ball cut back for Sam, but his close range snap shot was saved by an under worked Wintney keeper.
So the final score was 5-0 to Wintney, possibly a little flattering as although they dominated possession and looked the better side, Athletic doggedly hassled and harried them and were perhaps unlucky to lose by such a big margin.
Blog man of the match was James on debut, who had a great game at right back, well done James.
Next week's game sees Athletic visit their new home ground at Binstead as they plays hosts to Royal Exchange, a side that they beat twice and lost once last year. 10:30am kick off.
Up the Chawton!!

Chawton Athletic Friendly V Selborne Arms - Sunday 23rd Aug 09
Morning Athleticers.
This Sunday's friendly (23rd August 2009) against the Selborne Arms is still going ahead, I will be phoning everyone on Wednesday evening to finalise availabilities.
The squad looks good for this season with around 20 players currently interested in playing for Chawton Athletic so far, but as we know we need to ensure we always have at least 14 available for every week to give ourselves a decent chance of competing week in week out.
I am still waiting for the fixtures, but both George and I will be unavailable early September due to holidays and in his case Honeymoon. We will very likely need someone to organise the side if we have a fixture over the weekend of the 12th/13th Sept while I am away. Volunteers please.
This year's signing on fee is £20, I will bring signing on forms to the friendly for those who did not make the team meeting some weeks back. I would appreciate it if you also bought the money too so that the kitty has some funds in it ready for the start of the season.
As with last season match fees will be £5 for a full game and £2.50 for a part game, and as with last season I will attempt to ensure that subs get at least 30 minutes if possible.
Choosing who to come off is never easy so we will need to discuss how best to approach this, we are all playing to enjoy ourselves and so occasionally we will have to take it in turns to come off. Team spirit is key to the team's survival so ideally let's all pull together and give everyone a fair crack of the whip. Hopefully Shaun Newens will still be able to assist with the touchline duties to take the pressure of myself.
Roll on the new season and I look forward to seeing you all this Sunday.

Season 2009/10 - the build up......
Afternoon Chawton Athleticers,
As previously announced by text to you all, I have personally paid for Chawton Athletic to re-join the Farnham and District Sunday league for the 2009/10 season, so I am hopeful that you are all willing to commit yourselves to the cause to give us a team to play enjoyable Sunday morning football for.
To keep costs down, I am posting the newsletter here that I had originally planned to physically post to you. see below.

Newsletter - June 2009
Welcome to the first Chawton Athletic .F C. Newsletter, a review of the 2008/2009 season and a preview of the 2009/2010 season.
Firstly I would like to thank each and every player who turned out for Chawton Athletic F.C. last year, some were available more often than others, but everyone made a valuable contribution to the team.
Obviously the club was set up at fairly short notice and the original driving force behind the club coming into existence was Seth, we appreciate his efforts in enabling us to play football week in week out; it was a shame when he became no longer available to play or to run the club fairly early on in the season. The lack of a home pitch never helped our cause but hopefully this should be rectified by the beginning of next season.
Last season was a tough but enjoyable one, as they say; the league table does not lie, but I feel we showed enough promise; certainly in the fixtures against the lesser sides; to encourage us for the coming season.
The final league table was as follows:
Team P W D L F A GD PTS
Bluebell 14 12 2 0 79 20 59 38
Royal Oak 14 11 1 1 86 19 67 34

Cup Winners
Runwick Cup – CSL Hartley Wintney beat Wey Valley Sunday 2-1
Challenge Cup – Wey Valley Sunday beat Bluebell 5-1

Next Season. 2009/10
I am very hopeful that we will be able to field a full team with substitutes for every fixture that we are scheduled to play, but ultimately that is up to you the players.
I understand that not everyone might be available for every fixture, but please endeavour to make yourself available as often as possible, losing not fun, competing more enjoyable, winning much more enjoyable. The only way we will give a decent account ourselves next season will be to stick together as a squad of more than 14.
Shaun Newens has expressed an interest in assisting in the running of the team and we will be discussing his role over the coming months.
Thanks to George for his efforts, he has managed to secure a home pitch for the coming season. Chawton Athletic will be based at Binstead’s ground for the 2009/10 season, great work George well done mate.
Training
Quite a few of us are at the wrong end of our footballing careers and so the idea of us arranging training over the Summer would be to build a sense of togetherness for the squad and team spirit; work on some light fitness drills; hammer out some set plays both attacking and defensive and to generally create and maintain a comfortable feel for the ball. I understand that not everyone will make training every week, but the more people we have keep their interest the more likely we are to be able to mount a bid to lift ourselves from the foot of the table.
I do not envisage the requirement for us to train once the season has started; playing once a week is generally enough; so the groundwork for the coming season must be laid before the opening league fixture!
Many thanks to George Petrie and Si Edwards for volunteering to fill the Club’s other official positions these being Secretary and Treasurer respectively.
Subs will be collected before each game, please ensure that you bring your £5 along each week. The club needs funds to survive as it is only away league games that we do not have an expense to pay out for the pitch and referee (as much as £70 to £80 each time!) and please pay any fines for Bookings etc promptly as these escalate rapidly in to £28 and then £48!
Here’s to an enjoyable and successful 2009/10 season!

Morley Road Vs Chawton Athletic - Match Report
The curtain finally came down on what could have been deemed to have been a disappointing debut season for Chawton Athletic Sunday as they faced up against fellow strugglers Morley Road at Farnham College.
Athletic riding high on a wave of enthusiasm and confidence after last week's deserved victory against the Royal Exchange hoped for an unchanged side for the first time all season, but were again left scraping around at the last minute for players.
Rob, Jack and Scott dropped out Sunday morning and Si H did not make an appearance and with Si E already unavailable it made things tight for numbers yet again. Carl had been in touch and was bringing his boots as back-up and very thankful we were too.
Thankfully Rob did make it along and brought Jack and Si with him, though unfortunately they did not arrive until 15 minutes into the game.
By which time Chawton had seen their original starting line-up of 9 drop down to 8 as Matt picked up what could very well be the quickest injury in footballing history, pulling a thigh muscle just 35 seconds into the game, the misplaced pass which resulted in the injury fell to Morley Road who promptly waltzed up the other end and scored, a terrible blow for the now 8 men of Chawton.
Chawton fell further behind very soon after as the sheer weight of numbers started to tell. Chawton barely had time to regain their feet when Morley Road added a third, this time; make-shift Centre Back Pat; under pressure from the Morley striker; slotted a backpass past the helpless Martin for an own goal. 3-0 to Morley Road.
Rob, Jack and Si turned up and readied themselves in the car park, no changing rooms at Farnham College, and entered the fray.
Chawton immediately started to take a grip of the game, and their composure on the ball was rewarded as a clearly flustered Morley Road started to lose their normally cool heads. It finally looked like a football match as Chawton's footballing efforts made light work of the Morley midfield with Si, Jack, George and Bob all heavily involved in the middle of the park.
Chawton struck back as Bob cut inside from the left to unleash a 30 yard effort which sailed over the Morley Keeper's head and into the net. A deserved goal as Chawton were clearly in the ascendancy now.
Athletic kept pushing forward and were creating chance after chance with very little if anything coming back the other way, Sam going close with a great turn and strike.
Athletic narrowed the deficit further as good work from Si saw him finish well (apparently, I did not see it as I was getting re-changed at the time damn car park!!).
And so it remained 3-2 to Morley road the rest of the first half, Chawton still doing all of the pressing and playing all of the football, Morley Road looked dumbstruck; there surely was only ever going to be one outcome from here on in. The whistle went for half time with Athletic surely feeling the happier of the two sides.
Chawton started the last 45 minutes of their league campaign in determined and confident mood, the win was there for the taking and Rich P's rallying cry was seen to visibly inspire the Athletic team. Sadly it was Morley who were lifter early in the second half as the Striker stole in to score and stretch the Morley lead.
Athletic could see their chances slipping away but were still very much in with a shout of earning a result and again good work by Jack and Si created opportunities, but sadly they were not taken.
Morley fortuitously extended their lead when a cross the far post was nodded in after a shove in Martin's back prevented him from cutting out the danger, Athletic were disappointed to have been on the receiving end of the decision and were quick to point out where the official had gone wrong.
A spell of ten minutes further cost Athletic; as the midfield took further control of the game in the Morley half, the Athletic defence pushed higher and higher up the pitch and were caught very square and very high, Morley adding another goal to make the score 6-2. The referee had started to lose control of the game a touch, what had been an excellent game so far was turning into a heated exchange and the referee was at the centre of some of the main talking points.
Bob eventually went into the book after another reminder to the official as his questionable parentage and so the tackles were getting more and more tasty. Thankfully it calmed back down shortly after.
Chawton clawed their way back into the game and a shot well saved was followed up by Si who was unlucky not to be able to keep the difficultly bouncing ball down and swept his shot over from 6 yards. A ball inside saw George roll the ball into Sam's path and his lightning finish high into the net (the goal of the game surely) saw a deserved third for Athletic.
Sadly that was the last strike for Chawton as Morley road went on to add a 7th and 8th for what was an undeserved drubbing in the end.
Blog Man of the Match in the final league game of the season goes to Jack, who looked a danger throughout and could easily have unlocked the Morley defence on many occasions, well done Jack
A fantastic effort by the lads all season was celebrated in style by some as we headed to the Weybridge to experience their hospitality for the remainder of the afternoon.
Training starts on Sunday 22nd March for around a hour each time, from 10:30am at Anstey Park, we hope to see you all there.
There are many aspects of the game that we could all work on to improve, (availability being one of them), but obviously fitness and organisation are two others. Hopefully we will be able to start competing with our opposition increasing our enjoyment of the games we play and rewarding those able to commit to playing week in week out.

Royal Exchange v Chawton Athletic Match Report
Chawton; boosted by their recent performance against the Royal Exchange; where they narrowly lost 3-2 with 9 men; meant they entered this game knowing they had a chance of picking up a result.
Athletic were further boosted by the news that Exchange were struggling for players whilst Athletic for the first time for a while had 14 players available.
Matt; still suffering slightly from his injured shoulder; relinquished the keeping duties which were taken up by Martin, who himself was still feeling the knee injury picked up two weeks previous against the Exchange.
Athletic immediately set about stamping their authority and extra man on to the game, Matt and Sam starting up front, with Jimmer, George, Rob and Pat in midfield and Si, Scott, Si and Paul across the back and as mentioned Martin in goal.
Athletic took the lead as good work by Matt who made his way to the byline before cutting back well for Sam to smack the ball into the corner, a deserved lead for Athletic.
Chawton doubled their lead soon after as Jimmer's through ball found Matt racing clear, his lob just clearing the Exchange's stand in keeper's outstretched hand.
Athletic, with the time, space and confidence were playing some great football, everyone was involved right the way through the side, and the passing and moving was an example of the levels the boys surely could achieve with further practice over the Summer.
Exchange pulled a goal back as Athletic were caught holding a higher line than usual, Martin unlucky not pull off the save.
Back came Athletic and a through ball from Sam found Matt beating the keeper to a bouncing ball, before looking to lift it over the retreating defender but incredibly lifted up and over the bar from 5 yards, a terrible miss but Athletic buoyed by the opportunities they were creating, Jimmer was controlling the middle of midfield and Pat and Rob were chasing and harrying the Exchange midfielders and defenders into mistakes.
Jimmer nearly added a third as he burst through a launched a blockbuster from 30 yards, the rising drive scorched inches over the bar and good work from Matt including a neat back heeled turn past the last man saw his tame left footed shot easily fielded by the keeper.
Athletic deservedly did add a third moments before half time, great work again by Sam saw him beat several exchange players before rolling the ball back from the edge of the box for a on-rushing Rob, who's very firmly struck side footed effort flew high into the corner leaving the Exchange keeper well beaten. A superb strike by Rob and as the whistle went Athletic were delighted with their half's work, but knew they needed to keep the work rate up in the second half.
Rob brilliantly volunteered to come off and Jack took his place on the right hand side of midfield.
Chawton looked even stronger in the second half as Exchange tired, and they soon opened a three goal gap as Sam superb effort saw found the net via the keeper's hand.
Jimmer was regularly the free man in midfield and a lot of Chawton's attacking came through him, pass after pass and opportunity after opportunity came and went for Athletic, before Sam finally added the 5th and his hat trick. Another brilliantly taken goal lobbing the keeper superbly.
Again back came Exchange, who despite only having ten were giving a good account of themselves and kept trying to play football, they scored again reducing he deficit back to 5-3.
Athletic re-opened the three goal gap as an excellent run saw Jack slot home handsomely, there was still time for Exchange to grab another, but Athletic comfortably held on and saw out the rest of the game for a thoroughly deserved 6-4 victory.
Blog man of the match was of course Sam, his hat trick was exactly the fillip that Athletic needed, he showed superb touch, control and finishing.
Next week sees Athletic take on fellow strugglers Morley Road at Farnham College in the final league game of the season.

Chawton Athletic v Royal Oak Match Report
A familiar tale again this week I'm afraid as late unavailability's robbed Chawton of the opportunity to at least compete in this match, both Sam and Bob becoming unable to don the Yellow of Athletic; and so we arrived to find that we had 10 players against one of the stronger sides in the league.
Matt's Pectoral muscle injury, caused while lounging around in bed, seemed to be up for the goalkeeping challenge, the original idea was for the stopper to remain as a Substitute and for Martin to take the gloves; but the lack of numbers soon put paid to that idea and so Matt took up his familiar position between the sticks.
Chawton started with an all too familiar formation of 4-4-1 with Jimmer sitting in front of the back four in an attempt to to hamper their play maker on the middle of the park, and Dave, Martin, Scott and Paul at the back. George, Carl and Si made up the remaining midfielders and Rob ploughed a very lonely furrow up top on his own.
Chawton were immediately on the back foot as Oak's slick passing game maneuvered their way easily round the short numbered Athletic team, and it was Oak's play-maker that had the first opportunity of the game, collecting just outside the box, but his firmly struck side-footed effort was held second time of asking by the diving Matt.
Unfortunately in completing that save Matt severely aggravated the muscle injury that had made him a doubt for the game and it took a fairly lengthy stoppage in play to allow him to continue.
Oak had the bit between their teeth, but Chawton were holding them at bay, another rifled shot saw Matt gather well near the post, thankfully diving away to his right hand side on this occasion.
Oak took the lead in fortuitous circumstances as a aimlessly lofted straight ball into the Chawton box saw Matt come to easily collect; as the Keeper stretched to pull the ball from the sky the Oak forward jumped into him and the ball came free and was rolled into an empty net. An extremely annoying and disappointing start especially when considering Matt's general handling from crossing so far this season.
Oak soon doubled their lead as a slow, low cross was missed by everybody and found it's way agonisingly into the far corner, on top of conceding Matt had dived onto the side of his injury and the decision was made to swap keepers immediately.
Martin taking over the gloves and Matt taking up his position at Centre Back. Chawton kept battling but Oak are a well drilled side and even when Athletic managed to the Oak under pressure they simply played their way out of trouble. Every Chawton player was involved and several good passages of play encouraged the home side, but those hopes were soon dashed as Oak added from what certainly looked to be an awfully long way off side, but with no linesman of our own and one of the Oak substitutes doing the job for us we can have no real complaints.
A few minutes before half time and Oak's number 11 seemed only two players away from having fouled the entire Chawton side, he soon made up for it with a late challenge on a very brave Martin; who had slid out to collect well at the feet of the on-rushing forward, Martin being fortunate to have turned his head away as the challenge came in; and Matt, who having intercepted a through ball was crudely tackled from behind.
That aside Oak continued to play football and Chawton tried their very best to stop them, but after a couple of efforts which Athletic managed to scramble clear Oak added a fourth on the stroke of half time.
Several lunging challenges by Matt had seen him further struggle with his injury and now running was becoming almost impossible so he decided to go off, leaving the struggling Chawton with just 9 men.
Oak continued where they left off and added goal after goal as Athletic's stamina ran out. Martin did extremely well in the Athletic goal and was unlucky on several occasions to see rebounds from his saves fall to the feet of an Oak player and be buried.
Dave did well at right back including helping one over the bar, which after a discussion between the referee and the Oak captain was given as a corner rather than anything more serious.
The final score of 12-0 was an embarrassing one for Athletic as the 9 outfielders were simply over run and outplayed by a class Oak outfit.
Blog man of the match goes to Scott at Centre Back who plugged away the whole game and made several key interceptions and blocks, but special mention to all who played in the game, Martin, Paul, Dave, George, Si, Jimmer, Rob, Carl and of course Matt despite the fact he let two goals in and only played 45 minutes.
Next week's fixture could/should see the return of Rich, Bob and Pat at the very least, but could also see the return of Greg, Sam and Danny, but could equally see Matt unavailable dependent on how his injury fairs through the week.
